Spring Cookbooking!
There is so much going on this season. Let’s get to it.
First off, sorry for my absence from Substack mid-month. Travel and work got the best of me, but now I’m back with a vengeance!
Key to the Canadian Consulate
In light of this week’s Canadian federal election, a bit of personal news: I often say that although I’m a New Yorker (and a lawful US Citizen!), I'll always be Canadian at heart. No moment has been more telling of my lifelong connection to Canada than one evening last month, when I received the Key to the Canadian Consulate by Consul General Tom Clarke. As I was told, “This prestigious distinction honors individuals for their extraordinary accomplishments in their fields of endeavor and outstanding contributions to the friendship between Canada and the United States.” I shared the inaugural award with music legend Paul Shaffer (!!) and New York State Assemblyman Billy Jones. My family (mom, dad, brother and sis-in-law!) flew from Toronto to attend the ceremony with me, my hubbie Jeremy, and a small group of friends, at Canada’s official NYC residence. I can’t say that fostering friendship between the two nations was ever an explicit career goal, but I’ve never felt prouder of the work I do on both sides of what remains the longest undefended border in the world. Especially at this moment in our shared history.
